Mayo Peace Park and Garden of Remembrance

Commemoration events at the Mayo Peace Park on Sunday 29 May 2011.

A number of events will take place at the Mayo Peace Park and Garden of Remembrance on Sunday 29 May 2011. Assembly for the events will be at 11:30.

An unveiling of a special plaque commemorating three Irish soldiers will be performed by Mr John Rabbette at 1145. This will be followed by the family of Private John McDonnell of the US Army from Straide who will lay a wreath on behalf of the family and of the John Barry Post of the US Legion in Ireland. Mr Tom Scanlon Cleveland will lay a wreath on behalf of the Irish men and women who fought and died with the US Armed Forces. Mr Gerald Quinn President of the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland will reply.

Commodore Mark Mellett DSM Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service will lay a wreath in memory of all who served and died at sea.

Castlebar Town Brass Band and Piper Pat Conlon will provide a musical interlude.

At 1230 An Taoiseach Mr End Kenny will arrive at the Peace Park at 12:30 and will be invited to lay a wreath. This will be followed by a minutes silence, a lament by the piper, the Last Post and National Anthem
