The future in Childcare - meeting the Challenge

Childcare is very high on the political agenda and also on parents minds, there is a need to balance between responding to new patterns in employment to give parents, especially mothers opportunities to work if they so wish. In order to have this choice there needs to be affordable childcare so they can access it to balance work and family life to allow every child to get the best start for them.

This is when the importance of quality within the service matters.

Why would QUALITY MATTER?

  • To CHILDREN it is an investment in their healthy growth & Development.
  • TO PARENTS it supports their work and family responsibilities
  • TO CHILDMINDERS it offer meaning and satisfaction to their day to day work
  • TO BUSINESS & THE WIDER COMMUNITY it provides dependable workers and contributes to the local economy.

POOR QUALITY CARE DOES NOT BENEFIT CHILDREN

By focusing and working towards quality we are investing in the future generation, children do not grow up in a vacuum, but are affected by, and in turn, influenced by the families and communities in which they live. The  role of a childminder is a very responsible and important job.

How they carry out their job is influenced by many factors and each one contributes to the quality of their service.

Here in Mayo the HSE in Partnership with Mayo County Childcare  & Childminding  Ireland have produced a poster for parents that will be distributed around the county to give parents key points so they themselves can assess/evaluate the childminding service they are being offered.

Any parents who wished to receive a poster can contact Mary @ 094-9034776 HSE or e-mail @ mary.oharagavin@hse.ie  0r Mary @ 094-9047010 @ Mayo CCC.
