The Castlebar Lions Club have supported many projects over the years, some were small local requests for funding but most were ones who needed large funding. Our membership is about 25 active members with a number of former members who are available when help is needed.

Over the years we have been able to help out with many local worthwhile fund-raising events, we like to give our supporters value for money and have some unusual ideas to raise money.

Some of the projects we have supported include: Mayo Cancer Support Association, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre,  M.R.I. Scanner in Mayo Regional Hospital, Friends of The Sacred Heart Home,  Bright Eyes Fund for Mayo Regional Hospital,  Irish Motor Neuron Fund, Special Olympics, St. Catherin's School,  Castlebar Carers Group, St. Anthony's Special School Christmas Party, St. Vincent De Paul , Castlebar Social Services, Castlebar Gospel Choir, Castlebar Boy's Scouts.

Lions International Projects include: Christmas Food Appeal, Lions Youth Football, Holiday in the West for Dublin Simon Group, Annual Lions holiday for Castlebar Senior Citizens, Lions International Sight First 11 Programme, Sight Savers Annual Fund, Manzine Aids School in Swaziland, Street Children in India.

Our recent fund-raisers include Chernoble Childrens Holiday Fund, Mayo Academy of Performing Arts Building Fund & Temple Street Childrens Hospital. We could not of course do all this wonderful work without the great support of the public at large who have been most generous over the years.

Our Annual Film Premier night is always well attended, The Seafood Night in the Welcome Inn is not to be missed, we have been fortunate to get the T.F.Royal Theatre for the past two years for our Opera Night, our Charter Dinner Dance is a more formal night mainly for members and guests, we also run other events during the year from Race nights to Bowling evenings and Golf fundraisers, the support we get from the proprietors of the various venues is excellent, some will not charge depending on the charity we are supporting.

We are currently in our 30th. year, our officers are;  President Eamonn Horkan, Vice President Michael Mullahy, Hon. Secretary Gerry Moane, Tresurer. Joe Staunton. Our year finishes in July with Michael Mullahy taking over as President, Gerry Moane as Vice President, Aiden Kelly as Hon. Secretary and Andy Hart as Treasurer.
