Mitchels Hurling Club Notes
Our
club is 100 years old this year, being founded in 1902 and over the years it has
seen it’s fair share of good and bad days. This year has seen our club take on
an ambitious hurling development plan and our members are working hard behind
the scenes implementing it. Here is a sample of what is going
on.............

16 New
Hurling Coaches
An essential part of the Castlebar Mitchels
hurling club development plan is the training of coaches, so congratulations to
the 16 people from our club who have taken their Foundation level coaching
badges over the winter. They are Michael Cryan,
Darren Greaney, Paul Duane, Donal Horan, John Kennedy, Daithi Hughes, Michael
Murphy, Martin Greaney, Gerry Lane, Sarah Casey, Tony Gavin, Aiden Keane,
Michael Boland, John Joe Ormsby, Stephen McKeogh and Seamus
Devaney. Thanks to Jackie Coyne for organizing the courses and
to Pat Monaghan for facilitating them. The certificates will be presented at a
later date.
Congratulations
Last Saturday
night saw a good gathering of the hurlers at the Club Dinner Dance. A good night
was enjoyed by all and congratulations from everyone in the club to Tony Stakelum on his ‘Club Commitment Award’, and to
Padraig Felle on his ‘2001 Senior Player of the
Year Award’.
U-14
Hurling Training
This years U-14 hurling team will be coached by
Darren Greaney, Daithi Hughes, Steve McKeogh with the
assistance of Tony Stakelum. Training has just
started, so if you haven’t been there yet why not come along & join in the
fun.

When? – Tuesday & Thursday
evenings @ 5pm
New hurlers are always welcome.
U-14 Mayo Féile is being hosted by Castlebar Mitchels on
Monday April 1st.
Under
10 & Under 12 Hurling Training
The starting date for U-10 and U-12 training
will be on April 10th. Gerry Lane
and Sarah Casey will be looking after the
U-10s while Tony Gavin and Aiden Keane will lead the U-12s. If you are interested
in helping out in any capacity with either team please contact any of the
managers.
Senior Hurling Training
Tuesday & Thursday nights in G.M.I.T. @
8pm.
Sunday mornings @ 11am on the back pitch in
McHale Park.
New players are always welcome.
1st senior game versus
Ballina on March 30th.
Senior Hurling Connaught Club
Cup
Castlebar Mitchels have drawn Oran from Roscommon in
the 1st round of the Senior Hurling Connaught Club Cup. The game will
be played in Castlebar on Wednesday April 3rd.
Castlebar Mitchels to host Mayo Hurling Féile
The Mayo Féile na N’Gael, that
wonderful U-14 hurling tournament, will be hosted by the Castlebar Mitchels
hurling club on Monday April 1st. The games commence at 10am that
morning, with the following being the draw……

The winners will go on to represent Mayo in the
National finals.
Juvenile Hurling Table
Quiz
Thanks to all who supported the Juvenile hurling table quiz
in McGoldricks on Thursday night. Thanks also to Ger
Devaney, Aideen Brett and Rosaleen King for their usual high
standard of questions and efficient running of the night, to Tony Stakelum, Darren Greaney and
Mark Deeley for organizing and to Pat Tierney for hosting it.
Congratulations to the winners who were Christy
Joyce, Stephen O’Grady, Dave Flannelly and Tricia Sheridan. The
final quiz of the year will be on Wednesday night 27th March in
McGoldericks.
