General Meeting

The quarterly general meeting of the club held in Davitt College on Fri last was a very positive and productive one. The way is now clear for the implementation of the football report. Football at all levels will now get into full swing with both Bord na nOg and the adult sections facing challenging games ahead. Off the field, preparations are now under way to put together the next phases of the ongoing development of McHale Park, Sportlann and Josie Munnelly pitches. Plans are well under way for the staging of the Connaught Semi Final in June and hopefully other high profile games this season .

County Minor League

Kilmaine 0-5
Castlebar Mitchels 2-8

Castlebar Mitchels minors made a fruitful visit to Kilmaine on Sun last and emerged victors by 2-8 to 0-5. The foundations for this win were laid in the first half. Playing attractive football, the forwards responded by scoring 2-4, whist the defence, with Joe Malone at fullback outstanding and David Walsh and John Flannelly on either side both solid, kept Kilmaine from scoring. Ronan Bourke was having a very good game and scored 1-1 before being injured and replaced by John Conlon. This injury caused a reshuffle as Conlon went in at centre back, with Rory O Grady moving out to centre field and Eamonn Tiernan moving to fill the gap at centre forward. Neill Lydon was once again having an outstanding game and he was well supported by Michael Rock and Colm Gavin. Keith Joyce and Joe Corcoran were involved in many fine movements.

Mitchels tired in the second half and allowed Kilmaine back into the game. With a number of players involved in County duty on the Sat, whilst a couple of others were unavoidably absent, it was inevitable that the pace would drop. However players like Rory O Grady and Cormac Marrinan playing intelligent football, kept the momentum going. Mitchels, however, appeared to loose their way in this half and probably a number of forced changes upset the balance of the team. Sean Mitchel replaced Joe Malone, Alan Hyland came on for Colm Gavin and Neill O Donnell replaced Joe Corcoran. It was the strength and fitness of the Mitchels however which saw them weather this uncertain patch and they duly emerged winners. John Flannelly at corner back had a very sound game, whilst Sean Ryder had another customary high quality game and together with Rory O Grady and Alan Feeney ensured that the Kilmaine attack never got moving. Cormac Marrinan at centre field put in a very productive performance, whilst up front Neil Lydon was once again the pick of a very mobile and fluid attack.

Scorers for Mitchels: Neil Lydon 1-4, Ronan Burke 1-1, Michael Rocke 0-2, Joe Corcoran 0-1, Rory O Grady 0-1.
