Mitchels Notes - 21/04/2002

Match Abandoned

The Mitchels players and supporters were most disappointed on Sunday last when the referee decided to abandon the game against Ballinrobe. Leading by 0-5 to 0-1 at half time, the Mitchels had a reasonable expectation that they could have taken both points from the home side. Although the conditions were difficult, the Mitchels were playing well with strong displays from David Gordon, Richie Feeney and Tim Byrne in the half back line, Shane Fitzmaurice at centre field and Ronan Burke at full forward. Having started the game, it was puzzling when the referee indicated that he would not resume the game after half time. It can now only be hoped that the administrators fix an appropriate date for the replay. In a very competitive division, success should go to the team performing on the field and not to teams benefiting from organisational red tape.

It was particularly heartening to see the increasing number of Mitchels supporters who are coming to games. We look forward to many more coming out as the campaign progresses. It will need the positive support of all through the campaign.

Junior Football.

The jnr team made a valiant effort against Kilmeena in Div 4 but unfortunately were caught for steam in the last ten minutes. Training for the juniors takes place on Tues and Thurs at 7.30 pm. The following panel is available for selection although not necessarily closed. Mark Moore, Kevin Mullahy, John McSharry, Eoin Kane, Colman Kane, Noel Kearney, Ian Walsh, Eamonn Shaughnessy, Eoin Shaughnessy, Brian Regan, Declan Reilly, Fintan McHale, Damien Melvin, Michael Durcan, Ger Noone, Stephen Murphy, Seamus Marrinan, Keith Gillick, Wally Flynn, Colin Dawson, James O Hara, James McGovern, David Quinn, John O Malley, Peter Tuohy, Declan Ginty, David Walsh, Declan Lavelle, Liam Rafferty, Brian Healy, Pat Ludden, Michael Murphy, Aiden McNally. Anyone else interested in playing, training or helping out should also come along. The minors train at the same time and it is hoped they will benefit from the combined training.
