Wedding Bells
Off the field activity continues to thrive as more and more Mitchels take the plunge and play the greatest game of their lives. Diarmuid Byrne and Sarah Flood are tying the knot in Ballintubber Abbey on Fri next. Former Mitchel Russell Gibbons is getting married on Thu, while Michael ‘Duter’ Durkan had his 'stag' in Kilkenny last weekend. To all involved we extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes.

Willie the Shoe
Best wishes to Willie the Shoe in his latest setback. Hopefully, stock, you will continue to improve.

Coaching the coaches
The short coaching course run by Eugene Lavin and Joe McCabe was a great success. The practicals were particularly valuable. There will be a follow up late in the year. Details later.

Golf Classic
The golf classic is fixed for weekend 31 May - 01 Jun. Watch this space for more details or contact an Fear Mor himself.

Mitchels B 0-7 : Belmullet B 2 -13
At half time this game was finely balanced at 4 points each but in a ten minute spell at the beginning of the second half Belmullet put 1-6 on the board without reply. The goal coming curtsey of an og. Despite this defeat, Mitchels put in a much improved performance with strong displays from Noel Kearney, Wally Flynn, Seamus Marrinan, Fintan McHale, Damien Melvin and Michael Rocke. Training takes place on Tue and Thu and all are asked to make an effort to attend.

Mitchels 2 - 7 : Killala 0-7
Mitchels got a serious wake up call when Killala playing against the wind outplayed and outscored the home team to lead by 4 points to 2 at half time. After 12 mins it was Killala who were leading by two points to nil before Diarmuid Byrne following a quick 45 from Kevin Filan opened the scoring for the home team. However it was Killala who were playing the football and it was only a Filan free on the stroke of half time that put respectability on the scoreboard. Having hit ten wides it was not a happy looking team going in for the halftime break. Shane Fitzmaurice and Declan Shaw were effective in this half.

Whatever words were said, however, saw a more focused and determined Mitchels retake the field. After two mins a sweeping move from their own goal line initiated by Naughton in goal and with ten players handling the ball, it ended up with Ronan Burke facing the goalkeeper and he made no mistake about crashing the ball to the back of the net. The Fitzmaurice brothers at mid field as well as Kevin Malone were beginning to see a lot of the ball. Two pointed frees from Filan and Byrne were neutralised by Killala but in the 16 min the Mitchels clicked into a higher gear and three unanswered points from Filan (2) and Dwayne Flynn saw some daylight between the teams. In the 25 min another sweeping movement resulted in Dwayne Flynn crashing home a great goal from close in. Although Killala did come back and score another point it was Mitchels who finished the stronger.

This Mitchels performance was well below par and outlines how difficult this division will be. No games can be taken for granted and the focus must be right all through. Too slow to the breaking ball, over elaboration and too many basic errors will have to be rectified if results are not to go against them.

Ciaran Naughton, Brian Hennelly, Dara Larkin, Paul Harte, David Gordon, Ritchie Feeney,. Tim Byrne, Jamie Fitzmaurice, Shane Fitzmaurice, Paul Fitmaurice, Kevin Malone, Declan Shaw, Diarmuid Byrne (0-2), Ronan Burke (1-0), Kevin Filan (0-4).
