Kelly Cup
Castlebar Mitchels 4 - 9 : Balla 1 - 7

As a contest this game was over after 30 seconds when Paul Fitzmaurice had the ball in the back of the net. The game thereafter descended into one of petty fouling and allied to many basic mistakes, certainly did nothing for entertainment value. When Mitchels added three more goals before half time, to lead 4-4 to 0-4, interest in the game had evaporated. In the second half Balla raised their game but were never likely to catch Mitchels. Castlebar used the opportunity to give younger players a chance to show their worth. With the league only a week away, there is still considerable work to do

Top Pitch.
Work on realigning the top pitch is now completed. The availability of the pitch is however subject to the usual conditions of previous years. With so many wishing to use it, from all ages of hurling, senior to U10 Footballers as well as the Ladies it is important that a degree of co-operation is given by all. A little planning and communication will go a long way to ensuring that most are facilitated. Time spots for the use of the pitches will be available on the notice board in An Sportlann

Co Board Draw on Apr 24th.
It is imperative that all outstanding tickets be sold immediately and the returns made to James Rocke to ensure inclusion in the above. Early bird tickets must be returned immediately. Remember this is a vital source of revenue both for the club and the Co Board

International Rules
Joe Malone represented Castlebar Mitchels on the Irish panel for the international U17 against Australia. A wonderful achievement and certainly one which will be cherished not only by Joe himself as well as his family but also by the wider community of the Mitchels. A product of the Bord na nOg system, it is a tremendous vote of encouragement to his managers, coaches and trainers. The athleticism and commitment of Joe to his sport bodes well for his future. Well done Joe

The Mitchel

Salthill/Knocknacarra U14 Blitz
Castlebar had their first outing this year in Salthill last week end, where they acquitted themselves well. In the first game they beat Barna 9-5 to 2-1. As the scoreline suggests, it was rather easy for the Castlebar boys. The second game, however, was not as easy where they met Salthill, who are the current Galway West U13 Champions. Castlebar found themselves 5 points down at half time but showed great spirit and heart to level the score at full time 2-6 to 3-3. In the final game they played old rivals Claremorris. A tight game up to half time but in the second half, Castlebar pulled away with some good scores from Gary Hayes, Tom King and Gerald O Boyle to win 5-6 to 1 -5.

Castlebar : Shane Cumane, Daragh Loftus, Mark Conlon, Sean Gavin, Peter Moran, Ciaran Sheridan, Raymond O Malley, Christopher Maughan, Diarmuid Sheridan, Paul Flynn, Tom King, Cillian Gavin, Gerald O Boyle, Jarlath Glynn, Ioseph O Reilly, Sean O Malley, Conor Douglas, Raymond Moran, David Howley, Gary Hayes, Mark Togher, Shane Hopkins.
