About: The Karen is one of the largest ethnic minority groups in Burma. After Burma got its independence, the Burmese majority refused the Karen their right of self-determination. Thousands have escaped in order to avoid persecution to refugee camps at the Thai-Burma Border. The Karen in County Mayo came from one such camp (Ban Don Yang) to Ireland at the end of 2007.

John Hoban is a singer/songwriter/musician and author from Castlebar in the West of Ireland. John and his wife, Isabela, have developed a warm friendship with the Karen community and teach and play music with the community. Some of their students are playing and singing on this CD. The CD is entitled "The Karen Community in Ireland with Special Guest John Hoban."

All proceeds from the sale of the CDs and the fundraiser will go towards school fees and towards rebuilding the school dormitory of Karen children in Mae La Refugee camp school in Thailand.
