Remembering Christine Concert

Born in Dublin, Christine emigrated to Liverpool but moved to London shortly after. A severe addition to alcohol left her sleeping rough on the streets for 23 years. All of her six children had to be taken into care. She was eventually rescued by members of that wonderful humanitarian organisation called “Simon”.

She was one of a group of Irish emigrants who were taken on holiday to Mayo by the Mayo Emigrant Liaison Committee, she in common with all the other members of this group, really enjoyed the thrill of being back in Ireland after all those difficult years on the streets. She passed away in dignity in a Simon hostel in 2012 aged 84 years.

The concert is being staged in her memory and your very kind support on this night will help others in similar circumstances, who are being cared for by members of the Simon community. Simon render a sterling service of care to our brethren who are homeless and in need of food, clothing and a bed to rest their weary limbs on a night.

The concert in memory of Christine is to coincide with an organised holiday in Mayo for 30 needy Irish emigrants from Monica’s Houses for the homeless, Birmingham, Liverpool Irish Community care outreach services, and the Simon Community, London.
