On Monday night next March 11th 2013 Belcarra born brothers Jim O'Connor & Michael O Connor will be launching a book entitled "When Crowbar & Bayonet Ruled". The book is a 3 year study of the Land War on the Belcarra Estate of Harriet Gardiner & Susanna Pringle and details the evictions, imprisonments, house levelling and forced emigration that occurred between 1879 & 1910. The book examines the role played by James Daly, the Land League and the Connaught Telegraph and details the numerous court proceedings at Ballyglass and Castlebar. The book should be of interest to people researching their ancestors in the Parishes of Drum, Ballyheane, Breaghwy & Castlebar.
