Well my friends, its been some week, in fact it's been some couple of weeks. The girls do what the men couldn't and win the All Ireland, Ballyhaunis come from nowhere to win the County hurling championship, Crossmolina, well do I need to go on about them winning the county football title?

In soccer the Mayo League finishes with Castlebar Celtic B finishing second in the Premier Division but not going up due to the fact that their first team are already there, leaving Ballinrobe third and possibly playing super league football next season (I can see that one being a great quiz question in a few years). I won't even go into the rugby stories where Westport beat Castlebar, Connacht stayed unbeaten (well until last Saturday anyway) and everything started hotting up ahead of the European competitions.

But I'm sure you will agree that for the sports fan in Mayo, you have been spoiled for choice.
Now if you think it's going to be quiet from now on, you are very much mistaken. Because this weekend we have a cracking line up of action throughout the county.

Starting with soccer, there is a full Connacht Cup fixture list this weekend featuring most of the top clubs, there is also the Division two final in the Mayo league where Fahy Rovers take on Kilmore for the honour of being Div 2 champions. And I almost forgot that the Mayo Under 21 team are in action in the Eircom Under 21 League.

In Gaelic Games we have a wonderful selection of finals and semi finals from underage right up to Intermediate.

In rugby the Connacht League continues with a couple of cracking games. The Basketball season continues with Team Westaro, Lundy foods and Longnecks all in action over the weekend.

In showjumping, Mayo's finest will be all out to take home the Connacht Championship, which this year is being held in Glenamaddy Co Galway. Great venue (I should know I've been there). And in Athletics Mayo's ladies continue their preparations ahead of the European team championships. Do I need to go on?? As always stay close to local radio and newspapers for details on all events. If you can't find their addys then check out this wonderful website that is www.castlebar.ie and they will lead you in the right direction. have fun!!!
