There are several major sporting events over the weekend around the area with plenty to do and see if one is so inclined. For the golfing fan the Irish PGA championships take place in beautiful westport with stars like Paul McGinley(former winner of the World cup), Des Smyth(looking for his 7th title) and Eamon Darcy(former winner of the Ryder cup).On the soccer front there is a full complement of games in the Mayo league, match of the day being the superleague game between Castlebar Celtic and Manulla, a rematch of the Connacht Junior cup semi final in which celtic won after a dramatic penalty shoot out. in Gaelic Games all fixtures are in full swing between saturday and monday with games at all divisions including minor(u18 to our international friends). Finally in rugby as the season winds down it also warms up with the important Connacht junior league semi final between Castlebar and Corinthians in Cloondeash kicking off at 3pm. Our neighbours in Westport are also in action in the Connacht Junior cup 2nd round against Buccaneers, looking for revenge for their defeat in the league while Ballinrobe gun for glory in the Connacht U-18 league final where they take on Dunmore. Stick with all the local sports websites and www.castlebar.ie for news on all sports over the weekend.
