Another mad sporting weekend!

What can I say? Last weekend was mad to say the least. We had the disappointment of the basketball team losing on the Friday night, then the joy of them winning on the Tuesday (WELL DONE LADS!!!!). Castlebar losing in the rugby but Westport opening their own group up like a can of sardines with their win over Buccs. Mayo winning their final Eircom U21 league match and last, but by no means least, Mayo getting off to a good start in the national football league. Not bad for a small(!) county I'd say. And that's forgetting Ballinrobe staying unbeaten in the Connacht Junior League in rugby.

If you thought that was a lot, then you ain't seen nothing yet! It's round two of the National Football League and Mayo begin their travels with a trip to Newry and Down. This Down side are good and, with Armagh winning the championship last year, will feel that they want to move with the times. Should be a good game.

In soccer, Westport united travel all the way to Douglas in Cork for their FAI junior cup clash with Douglas. And the Mayo under 18 team are in action against Sligo/Leitrim. In rugby it's a big un with two all Mayo clashes. Westport travel to Ballyhaunis while Castlebar take on Ballina. Ballinrobe have a tricky tie against Loughrea.

The basketball season takes a small break, AS IF! Team Westaro, Lundy and Longnecks are in action in the national league while the ladies are in full swing. In fact its a real double header in Castlebar as Team Westaro take on Tyrone Towers and the Ladies of the Rockets play University of Limerick. One of the games is in the Sportlann while the other is at De La Salle. As always stay tuned to local media for full details on all action that happens.
