There was a great buzz and sense of excitement at St Patricks BNS on Monday April 11th 2011, as the school raised its fourth green flag, based on the theme of travel. The very special guest of honour was An Taoiseach, Mr Enda Kenny. The school band waited to greet An Taoiseach as he made his way to the school with Mayor of Castlebar, Mr Ger Deere. Large crowds of parents and friends of the school gathered to greet and welcome Mr Kenny.

The Green Schools Committee had worked extremely hard to get this flag which involved huge co-operation from staff, students and parents. Large numbers of students have been walking and cycling to school on the specially designated WOW/COW days.

Mrs Liz McManamon introduced An Taoiseach to the waiting crowd and he congratulated the students and committee on their great achievement. He also spoke of his delight at being able to return to his home town and attend an occasion such as this. Ms Eva Gannon of An Taisce, also congratulated the school and students as did Major of Castlebar Mr Ger Deere.

It was a wonderful day of celebration and achievement at St Patricks.
