Mayo dancer saves Gaelforce Dance show!

Achill native, Maria O’Connor, saved the day last week by stepping in at the last-minute allowing the world-renowned Irish dance show, Gaelforce Dance, to go on at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar!

Maria, a professional dancer and tutor at the University of Limerick (UL), got the call last week ahead of the 6-night run which opened at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar last Friday to rave reviews. The powerful and pulsating production, never seen before in Ireland, will also run this week from Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th February.

One of the dancers was injured during the tour, so production executives called Maria in as she knew most of the routines having danced with Gaelforce for a year and a half previously. Although due back at UL this week, Maria rescheduled her timetable to take this opportunity to dance for such a professional production – now the third largest grossing Irish dance production of all time.

Speaking of her delight, Maria said “It’s a privilege to dance for Gaelforce Dance one last time. It’s a fantastic show, and it’s a huge honour to work with such a world-renowned production including choreographer, Richard Griffin.”

Don’t miss Gaelforce Dance at the Royal Theatre this week! Tickets are still available from the Box Office on 0818 300000, online www.royaltheatre.ie and all usual outlets.
