Ballintubber man becomes a Professor in the UK

Richard Lydon, originally from Ballintubber, Co. Mayo has become a Visiting Professor at the University of Loughborough, UK.

In this external role he will be assisting the Chemical Engineering Department with the future direction and focus of postgraduate research and funding, from an industrial perspective, in the area of advanced solid liquid separation, which has been a focus of his specialisation for the past 13 years.

Richard is Technical Director of Madison Filter Group Ltd. and works across the group on the development of new and innovative filtration solutions for industrial applications.

Commenting on the appointment Professor Wakeman, Head of Chemical Engineering at the University of Loughborough said, "The Chemical Engineering Department has very strong links with industry. In research, we aim to have close alliances between our research groups and companies that lead the way in technology areas in which our groups have particular strengths. We look forward to working with Richard and MFG in future projects."

Loughborough University has one of the leading filtration research groups in Europe and aims to become the premier specialist group in the world.

Commenting on the appointment Colin Waudby, CEO of MFG Ltd. said "Richard is a tremendous asset to MFG and we are absolutely delighted that his skills and abilities have been recognised in this appointment by the University of Loughborough."

He is a past pupil of Ballintubber N.S., Davitt College, Castlebar, Athlone Institute of Technology, and University of North London, where he studied Polymer Science. Richard currently lives with his wife Helen and family in Chester, UK. He is the son of Mrs. Annie Lydon and Mr. Paraic Lydon (deceased), Ballintubber.
