In fact the first webcast of CRC occurred back in the summer of 1997 before the Information Age Town competition judging. For a few months we relayed the signal to a server in San Francisco which kindly provided the service free of charge. The public Access Centre was then on Main Street and you had the strange situation of a transistor radio with a computer microphone pushed up against its speaker in order to pick up CRCFM and relay it to SF - while on the other side of the room you could hear CRCFM coming from the speakers on another computer having travelled half way around the world and back. The two signals were out of synch by a good 15 seconds or so! Now of course we have our own in-house RealServer which relays CRC but also allows people to watch a range of video and audio material made specially for www.castlebar.ie. Shortly we will be making high quality MPEG versions of all these videos available on CD.
