Death like birth is a part of life but of course for most of our lifes we do what we can to alleviate suffering. Should we not have the right to do the same if we are terminally ill?

Before introduction of abortion in America and the UK, abortions did take place. I imagine that assisted suicide is probably already taking place in Ireland perhaps in the form of neglect or more unusally as in the incident reported recently.

For most of us life is precious and should be cherished but want happens when life is a painful struggle with no hope. For those people who are not Christian assisted suicide maybe the only hope left.

This is one of those difficult issues and I don't see Ireland legalising it anytime soon which will probably mean that we continue to have 'foreign' involvement in assisted suidices in the form of people coming to Ireland to aid in it or people leaving Ireland to do it.

Of course this issue doesn't affect most of us but perhaps we should be thankful for the precious life we have.
