On the contrary, my Irish (sic) friend, history has a way of repeating itself, so we of good faith must forever be diligent, as I am. One does not critisize a nation that is the strength of Democracy and freedom, as is the United States of America. And indeed, our motto is E Pluribus Unum, "from many came one," and all nationalities here use phrases such as Polish-American, Jewish-American, etc. Too, up to the present century, Irish-Americans and those who immigrated here from Ireland, sent more money "home" to Ireland than any other amount of monies spent (up to that time), sent to a "native" country in the history of the world.
Yes, my friend, we have a right to call ourselves Irish. For the Irish have been in the front of our (U.S.) history for hundreds of years. The first person to received our highest honor, The Congressional medal of Honor was an Irish immigrant. Bernard J.D. Irvine, who proudly called himself an Irish-American. Thank you for your interest in this subject. Now you know the true answer to your questions. God bless.
