Strange . . . Mr. Gavin had no problem working on a task that did not have anything to do with plumbing back on Christmas Day 1998 !

Why has he changed his outlook on the job since then ?

The cynic in me wonders if he got a nice big juicy Christmas Day call out bonus in his pay packet ?

Or am I being too hard, was he just serving the needs of the community ?

C'mon Blackie . . let's have a bit of clarity on the issue . . are you a tireless servant of the people or are you just out to serve yourself ?

Kudos for council staff

The outdoor staff of Castlebar Urban Council have been praised for responding to a call-out on Christmas day.

Mr. Johnny Mee, a member of the authority, lauded the efforts of Pat Healy, town foreman, and Blackie Gavin, town plumber, in removing a tree which collapsed onto the public roadway at Newport Road.

"It was a particularly bad day weather-wise. But great credit is do to our staff for responding to the call so quickly," added Mr. Mee.
