The only Offshore Wind Farm proposal I'm presently aware of for Ireland is the huge proposal of over 200 turbines proposed for a sand bar some miles of Arklow, which incidentally at its launch a year or so ago was incorrectly heralded as the largest wind farm in the world (There are miles and miles of wind farms in the desert on the way from LA to Palm Springs in California - in excess of 1000 turbines I would say).
I do think though that the west coast is ripe for Wind Farms and contrary to what the do gooders and so called environtmentalists (What an irony or contradiction that is!) and objectors say about them being a blot on the landscape, I think there are few man-made industrial structures more pleasing and soothing on the eye (Apart from what they represent in terms of a renewable clean power source) than windmills/turbines.
But if these people really have a problem with asthetics - why not locate a massive wind farm on the likes of the uninhabited Inishkea islands off Aughleam in North Mayo or on Eagle Island or other similarly uninhabited islands of the west coast?
