I agree - I have lived in Canada for over 30 years, and when I heard about this vote, I thought, surely Canada has a patriot of their own to celebrate a day off. We have Canada Day and Simcoe Day (in Ontario) the rest of our stat holidays are easter, Queen Victoria, labour day, thanksgiving and the usual christmas holidays.
