I am gobsmacked by the arrogance of Bush and his US administration. I have followed the TV debates over the last few days and these have not changed my mind. Even though I am strongly opposed to Saddam's regime, I rally to the French/Belgian/German position: if Irak allows a tighter control of its weapons by UN led inspections and a permanent surveillance of its airspace then, war must be avoided as well as its so-called collateral damages i.e. poor Iraki people being killed. It is a pity not to see a strong united political Europe opposed to the American plans. I hope that Saturday protests all over Europe will prove to our politicians they MUST stop the US: this war is only going to make things worse and terrorism will be even more widespread. As a citizen of Europe, I hope our representatives will show some respect for human life and will back the French/Belgian/German position for a peaceful resolution. Bush thinks he is the President of the world, he thinks he can do everything his own way (e.g. no more Kyoto commitment from the US), the fact is he is NOT. It is time to stand up. Is there a protest organised in Castlebar this coming weekend?
