A guy called Paul Graham wrote a very interesting essay on why nerds get picked on over in the US. Have a read at the link below . . . personally I can find a lot of parallels with some of the rather unsavoury elements that would appear to have crept into certain sections of Irish society of late. Many of our problem youths (12 years old to thirty somethings) are tanked outa their heads on either drugs, drink or boredom (used to be rock n' roll) or a combination of all three. Whilst I know that I indulged in various activities (but I never inhaled ;-0 ) in my youth I never really had the money for massive blow outs every other weekend as some of the current youth do. Indeed there's a lot to be said for a certain level of poverty (and by this I mean as in impoverished students poverty, not real poverty) . . . keeps you thin, stops you drinking more than you afford, etc. A little money is a good thing, too much can be lethal. MODERATION is the key . . if you get smashed every weekend you're eventually either going to get bored or become addicted.
