Now that we are a 'hub town' we will be grand......I jest....
From what I can see Castlebar isn't doing too bad in comparison to a lot of towns of a similar size arount the country.
There are a number of developments being built around the Moneen road at the moment, which should hopefully attract some new industry to the town. Anyone know anything about these develpoments and if there is any confirmation of who might be setting up? We do need more jobs.

There are a few areas I feel which could be worked on a bit to improve Castlebar...

1. Tourism...Castlebar has a lot to offer visitors to the area and would capture a greater slice of the pie if we had some decent hotels/accommodation/restaurants/bars and a better national/international marketing campaign to attract visitors.
2. Infrastructure...access around Castlebar is fine but once you go out of the town area (with the exception of the Dublin Road) the roads are dreadful...this needs to be improved.
3. Power is a big problem and a lot of industry is put off from investing in places like Castlebar due to the unreliable supply of basic services.
4. The rail line should be opened between Galway/Castlebar/Westport. This would improve tourism and also enable people to comfortably live in this area and work in Galway without many hassles.
5. The IDA I suppose are doing their best and are trying to keep everybody happy but packaged correctly Castlebar has a lot to offer industry (especially medical manufacture). I wonder how it is being sold to investors…anyone know?

I think that there is a lot of positive stuff happening around the town (although more could be done) and feel that in years to come Castlebar will be a very desirable place to work/live in Ireland.

That’s my two pence ha'penny anyway!
