The normans did make it to Ireland. Some chap by the name of Diarmuid MacMurrow (sp?) from Leinster got his ass kicked in some power struggle. He was a wee bit bitter about this and in true Irish style he went and got the english to do his dirty work. Well ok, it was the normans in England but the principle is the same. He got the help of a bloke called the Earl of Pembroke or Strongbow as he was known down the local. Anyways Strongbow came over and slapped all around him before falling for the age old irish secret weapon of marrying the daughter. In this case I think it was Diarmuids youngest wan. Having got their feet under the table the normans ended up staying in Ireland and leading some of our many rebellions against the auld enemy. They conquered Connacht by beating its then high king Rory O'Connor eventually but didn't take a shine to the place for some reason.
