Yes, it's very normal.. We have a tom cat here, who moved in with us last year, and last summer he was gone for 18 days, we thought we had seen the last of him. One morning we opened the door and there he was, just a shadow of his former self.. Needless to say, straight to the vets with him... The vet says it's very common for them to go missing weeks at a time, they travel miles, and while they're out 'tom catting' they don't eat or look after themselves, so they lose a lot of weight, and then come home to build themselves up until their next session! If he comes back, get him straight to your vet.
