AFIK Ballina has over 100 pub licences (although some of these are not actually in use)
In the other hand Tallaght in Dublin (pop 100,000) has only three. Swords (pop 27,000) has 11 and Carrickfergus (Pop 34,000) has more churches than pubs.
Because of some stupid victorian law restricting pub licences from being transfered across something called a "parish boundary" (Why is legal recognition given to the administrative division of some private organisations) many parts of Ireland are underserved with pubs while other places have so many pub licences that half them arent viable
