"If the stock doesn't rise then his stock option are worthless....... -> based on performance."
Stock options are only a part of CEO salary. And CEOs can and do unload their stock if it is in danger of falling in price. And CEOs can and do receive huge increases in their salaries even when their companies are faltering. When a company falters what happens? A new CEO? No - layoffs.

When was the last time you heard of a teacher getting sacked ???????
Teachers in the States are sacked all the time, whenever a district comes up short on funding the teachers will fall under the fiscal axe.

"CEO's of major corporation and teacher aren't really compariable. If you want to compare like with like compare teachers to any other goverment paid profession e.g. Nurses. Social Workers, etc"
I am in total agreement with you here, there is no comparison. But regardless of the dissimilarity, there is no excuse for major CEOs to receive compensation packages that are so far out of line with the wages of EVERYONE else!

"Another point that the teacher are always banging on about is the salaries of recent graduates, mainly IT gradutes, basically they want similir salaries. But there is not comparsion, 99% of IT graduates are on performance based pay, 99% of IT graduates regurarly work far in excess of the 39 hour week, 99% of IT graduates are probably feeling pretty insecure about their job's at this moment in time."
When school districts downsize - teachers lose their jobs. The same is true for the IT industry, when the industry falters - people lose their jobs. That is just reality. (But your CEO won't lose his job.)

The following is just a general statement - not directed to you, Teachers Pet......
The point that fascinates me is how some people seem to lionize the greedy heads of corporations, who skim the profits off of their companies - lay off workers - lie about the safety of their products - pollute the environment - move manufacturing to foreign countries - and manipulate the government, to increase their profits etc.
Yet it is the teachers that are the subject of such ire.
If CEOs are justified in getting every penny the _market_ will bear, why shouldn't everyone else?
