The island of Ireland wasn't very well defended so it was in its best interest to stay out of the war. And that's what Ireland did, decided to be Neutral in name only.
How many Irish lads were killed in someone else's army? How many Irish lads as much as they hated the English joined up in their army because they knew that it was the best for Ireland? How many of us that post on the board had family that died in those world wars?
For God's sake! Irish was used as a frigging code by the allies during the world wars. The Germans and the Japs had no idea how to break that code, they couldn't even recognize it.
Ireland was neutral, I'll give you that. But if an allied plane landed in Ireland, more often than not it was re-fuelled and the crew fed and sent on their way. Or if they plane couldn't fly then the crew were helped back to their own side. However, if an Axis power's plane landed in Ireland then all of a sudden the allies were getting information from the "neutral" Irish.
Don't give me any bullshit about how wonderful ye yanks are. I deal with ye every day. The majority of ye are up yourselves. Ye think that ye live in the best country in the world when the majority of ye haven't been out of your own state, never mind out of the friggin country.
Don't give me any bullshit about Ireland's actions during the war, the Irish were in the trenches with everyone else.
