On the other extreme the highest denomination note is going to be €500 (about £395). Who wants to be carrying amounts of money like that around (apart from the brown envelope brigade maybe) !!!
I heard onetime that all notes above $20 were withdrawn in the US (correct me if im wrong) to make large cash transactions conspicious and therfore deter crime.
