The German's have been big into things like energy efficency and recycling for a long time.
Also despite their facination with cars and extensive Autobhan (motorway) network they have an efficent cheap and fast public transport system which proves that people (even car owners) will use a quality public transport system if it is made available.
The Green party in Germany are currently in Government and they are phasing out Nuclear power over the next five years and investing heavily in alternative energy sources.
We could learn a lot from them !
