1: Sure. Nice devices, aren't they. Hopefully serve in maintaining status-quo..
2: RE: Russia never wanting to join NATO
Why should somebody want Ireland to join NATO? What is strategic importance of Ireland? I am not a soldier, maybe there is some. NATO was formed in order to oppose Russia, that;s why I am so happy that my country joined NATO and hope German(1939) or Russian (1968) invasion will never occur again, don't mention that both of them were unfortunately overlooked by nation. Yes, by Ireland too :-). And russia has not changed at all, esp. when goverment has not much control over the country. I also heard reason (directly from Russian general) why NATO is afraid of Russia. This guy (hopefully dead already) mentioned that russia used to wonder in Europe every 40 years and last time was 68, so it is almost time for next trip :-) Funny, isn;t it? Also an interesting number, communists have killed more than 17 milion people in the past and the number has been increasing.
3: Does it matter?
My sense of democracy tell me only one thing, prove it. Gore and Lieberman obviously tried that..
4: A regime that has more people in prison (per capita) that another country in the World.
Maybe just an evidence their police is more effective than local one?
You know what gestapo was? I do not think so, otherwise you would not tell such nonsense.
5: The Death penalty
Nothing at all if only the guily were getting executed and if execution was being applied in an even handed way (Why is it mostly Black's and the poor being executed) As for more freedom Im not sure exactly what you mean but I much prefer living in a country where Im not as likely to loose everything and end up homeless because I happen to fall ill or because of some economic
events outside my control
I really do not want start this sort of social discussion but I think this situation is quite logical. I do have my own experience with low level people and their attitude to education and laws..
If thats the case why dont we invite the UK in as well ?
Don;t know. Maybe some guys would produce even more bombs?
The last point- why most of irish people went to US. Maybe because of very unfortunate situation of this country, with worse infrastructure than 3rd world countries, famine in not-so-long-ago history or continuing sense of self-pity?
