i could not agree more with your comments townie, we have been through the same child abuse scandals here in england, as you have in ireland, bishops are responsible for their clergy, here we have guidlines to protect children and clergy so this sort of sickness for that is what it is, does not happen,i was sexually abused by a priest when i was younger so i know what i am talking about, but i dont want revenge and wont ever report it, but i do know this its the attitude of the church that stinks, priests are not allowed to marry, or have sexual relationships was it not st paul who said " better to marry than burn " the church as an instituation is to blame and the bishop in ireland is a symptom of a general corruption that is taking place, hardley anyone entering sememnaries ( can you blame them ) lack of respect for priests, i think personally God is telling us people to take control of our churches ourselves, and a commission of enquiry should be set up to look into the lives of these so called churchmen, one person said that at easter services his priest had condemed such actions by fellow clergy, well its to late as far as i am concerned, i will never trust any member of clergy again i have kept my faith thank god but now i have a woman priest who i do trust, i just hope that you good people in ireland now take the oppertunity to rid yourselves of these evil people and the church officals who hide and make excuses for them, if not vote with your feet and leave the instituation which is dying anyway
