In response to a previous posting by "James", I am very proud to say that I was taught by nuns (from 1980 to 1985) and found the majority to them to be extremely good teachers and very passionate about education. Sr Brendan was the principal at that time and I found her to be an extremely fair-minded individual who gave every pupil the benefit of the doubt. Many ex-pupils have become very successful and would have no hesitation in attributing their success to a solid educational foundation. I had a great respect for both the nuns and their institution and am saddened by the callous way their old "home" has been destroyed by vandalism and neglect. The statue, for me, does not represent a religious icon but rather a symbol of an institution which strived to broaden the minds of young women and give them the very best start in life.
