Posted by Mary (London) on June 12, 2002 at 11:33:09: Just returned from an enjoyable weekend in Castlebar - many thanks in particularly to Oonagh and Des at Carragh House B & B for always making me so welcome. Every time I visit Castlebar, I am struck by the amount of change taking place and in particular with the number of housing developments (some unfortunately are little more than a blight on the landscape while others have some real character). When I left Castlebar in the late 80s I think the population was around 10,000, I wonder if anyone knows what the population is today?
