Man burns himself alive to support South Korea Police said the 45-year-old man was critically burned in the apparent suicide bid a few hours before South Korea played Portugal in Group D. The man made deep bows for several minutes facing the sea at the beach. He poured paint thinner over his body and set himself on fire with a lit candle. A note found nearby was titled "To the Red Devils members in this world," said police. The Red Devils are South Korea's national supporters club. "Sweat and tears from our head coach Guus Hiddink and his men, tremendous cheers, the joy of the first victory, all these were the greatest birthday gift ever to me," the man wrote. The man chanted "victory to Korea" while he was being taken to a nearby hospital, emergency services said.
