Bush's government has not provided anywhere near the accepted 0.7% of GDP for third world relief. $75 billion on bringing 'democracy' to just one country but nothing for the 4.5 million orphan children whose parents died of AIDs. Specifically at the Doha WTO session last year Bush's administration deliberately collapsed the proposition to allow all developing countries right of access to affordable medicines for any disease that undermines public health. This agreement would have allowed poor countries to manufacture generic versions of AIDS drugs. But the pressure put on the White House by their usual big business friends led Bush to restrict access to the millions of people earning less than a dollar a day. Every other country agreed to the proposition but not the US. It's no consolation to the orphans whose parents earned less than a dollar a day to say they can 'buy' the drugs costing many month's income. The WTO approach was the only way in which the poorest of the poor are going to receive treatment for AIDS. The US and only the US put the clampers on it.
