We could feed Africa (and everywhere else for that matter) NOW if the political will were there (So why isint there Mr Bush ?) Producing even larger food surpluses isint going to help anyone. Incidently before monsonto got their grubby hands into the GM business there was talk of producing plants which made their own pesticides but not anymore. GM technology shouldnt be ruled out completly but we need a 10 year morotorium to carry out more research into the safety of what is after all a vey new science) It is certainly a far too important businessto be left in the control of a couple of agrochemical corporations. The EU proposals BTW dont prevent the US selling GM products to European consumers they just require the products to be labeled so that consumers can make an informed choice. Surely freedom of choice for consumers is what America is supposed to be all about ? Even Stalin never attempted to dictate to people what they should eat !
