McDowell's statements and actions are becoming more like his hero in the White House. Witness his extraordinary attack on the Gárdaí regarding bribery.
If he was certain the referred to bribery existed it is presumably an offence. If so he should be constitutionally bound to investigate it which he has said he won't do.
After making the statement he said with exceptional arrogance that he had no obligation to substantiate the allegation or indeed provide any proof!
He announced that it was sufficient for HIM to know about it and that he believed the people ( i.e. the nation ) trusted him on the issue.
In summary the man responsible ( on our behalf ) for the integrity of our police force has stated that it is corrupt. He said that he has proof which he doesn't have to show anyone, that he is going to do nothing about past corruption and that we trust him and will continue to do so.
This is the man who acceded to a US request to hold all government information on all citizens for an extended period to help the war against terrorism. He did this without our consent. He also passed an astonishing amendment to the freedom of information act without ever mentioning it pre-election or bendind to extreme public pressure on the issue.
Mr. McDowell seems to be oblivious to the fact that he is elected to serve us and us only.
