I heard the Minister fo rhte Environment this morning saying that we spend more per capita than the combined total for Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France. He claimed that these countries charge the same price as we do for beer and spirits - France is a lot cheaper for wine but we are not big wine drinkers. Whether he was talking about price in supermarkets and off-licences or pub prices of course may account for the difference.
