I've often travelled between Dublin and Castlebar on a friday evening and the speeds at which people drive at is frightening. There were manys the time that I would be in a line of cars at 55mph and a clown would pass from 6 cars back and, basically, rolled the dice and hope for the best that he would make it past before the bend in the road. I'm not too sure if it is the state of the roads or the fact that people are fustrated being behind a person who is travelling too slow, accidents are caused by people driving beyond the scope of the road. A bit like trying to land a 747 and Castlebar airport! - it probably could be done but it is beyond the scope of the runway. The same can be said for a bend in the road, you could corner at 60mph but if the corner is classed at 30mph, the chances of making through is slim. Finally, it is very unfortunate that people lose their life through road accidents - a terrible waste of life.
