As I understand it the RC church has made women priest's before in circumstances of great duress, but their position now is more toward creating a new holy order for women which would encompass the roles of a priest but be different in someway that is more symbolic than anything else. I think it's hard to argue against women being allowed equal positions in all respects within the church but we do have to remember that in the majority of the Catholic world women's equality is the least of the worries of the people - staying alive, is a little more time consuming. We're priviledged in being able to take our time to contemplate ideals only because our basic needs are already met. And although there have been and undoubtedly still are problems within the church, there is also no question that it is a major force in gaining basic human rights for the underpriviledged and impoverished.
