women's equality is the least of the worries

Yes and No. Ineqality for women is a big issue for Women in Southern (third world) countries too.
Generally speaking Women suffer a lot more from the effects of poverty in these countries than men do. Males will usually consume the lions share of the available resources but Women will do by far the lions share of the work. Boys (If theyre lucky) will be sent to school and learn to read but Girls rarely will. Girls will be forced to marry at a young age (usually not getting to choose the guy) and have large families, further adding to their financial problems
