Nice one PJ. Cocacolonisation was a favourite word in the 70s - plus ca change. The only other candidate for an Irish independence day is Easter Sunday - but all the ringleaders were shot so it doen't have quite the same ring as the Boston tea party, for example, and it took another five years to become Saorstát na hÉireann and it wasn't until 1948 (?) that we left the Commonwealth and then the multinationals started arriving in the 1960s... So perhaps our only true period of freedom was the 1950s! But no one liked the depressing 50s and the other half of the country left home to build roads in England.

Here endeth the lesson :)
