Before the middle ages it was five countries
1300's-1920's ruled by London
1920's-1990's ruled by Vatican (and then we accuse Carson et al of paranoia)
1990's - ruled by Brussels

Maybe the defeat of the Nice treaty could be celebrated as our "Independence day" ?
