We take the view that the material on the bulletin board is the responsibility of the person posting it - see the discalimer. The photographs and written material are copyright of the individuals creating the material in the first place. You will see copyright notices, for example, on the photographs of Michael Donnelly, Keith Heneghan and Ken Wright - professional photographers. Similarly, Muirsín Durcan and other volunteers hold the copyright of all their photographs. We like to be asked for permission to use material that is marked copyright www.castlebar.ie - we have had a number of cases of our photographs appearing in the national press without being asked for permission, for example.

The domain name castlebar.ie is supported by Castlebar UDC and according to the rules of the IEDR this is the only authority entitled to use the name. Back in 1997 when things were less clear the request to UCD to use the domain name was supported by the Chamber of Commerce and the Information Age Town Committee.

Currently, as you will see on the 'about us' page, the site is run by the Castlebar Server Project Company Ltd. which is a spin off of Castlebar Information Age Town Ltd., which was set up to handle the £1M prize fund from the Information Age Competition. When handling funds of this magnitude it is usually necessary to set up non profit limited companies. There is a link on the front page detailing some of the other projects funded by the eircom prize. As was pointed out above, accounts have to be audited and lodged with the companies office - up to date accounts are available there. Also some time ago a detailed breakdown of the how the £1M information age prize was being spent was published in the local press.

As with all Internet businesses at present it's a struggle to keep head above water. We would love to be able to report that millions are being made but, unfortunately, at present that ain't so. We will need continued sponsorship and support from local and national businesses once the eircom prize fund runs out. We have an amazing amount of traffic for a town web site. Potential business sponsors and advertisers may interested in the fact that each month we have over 60,000 visits generating over 1 Million hits. Fifty percent of our visitors live in Castlebar and 70% originate from within the Republic so we offer a very attractive platform to local businesses. Over 800 pages are read every day from our business directory alone, for example, so it is used quite a lot by local people in Castlebar and around the country.
