Posted by Football Crazy on November 02, 2001 at 13:44:07: Bayern and United meet again European champions FC Bayern München and Manchester United FC will meet again after the two clubs were pitted together in the draw for the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Group A Bayern, who defeated United in the quarter-finals of last season’s competition to avenge their 1999 final defeat, face the English champions in Group A, along with Boavista FC and FC Nantes Atlantique. It is the only group to contain four reigning domestic champions. Group B Group B brings together FC Barcelona against Liverpool FC, two former European champions who met in last season’s UEFA Cup semi-final from which the English club emerged 1-0 victors. The lineup is completed by Galatasaray SK and AS Roma. The Italian champions' meeting with Liverpool will revive memories of the sides’ 1984 European Champions Clubs’ Cup final in Rome, a match the Merseysiders won on penalties. Group C In Group C, Real Madrid CF, who are seeking a record ninth success in Europe's premier club competition in this their centenary season, will meet Panathinaikos FC, one of only three teams still unbeaten in the competition. FC Porto, the 1987 European champions, and Czech champions AC Sparta Praha are the other two teams. Group D Group D brings together two-times champions of Europe Juventus FC, RC Deportivo La Coruña, Arsenal FC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Arsenal and Deportivo met most recently in the 1999/00 UEFA Cup quarter-finals, a tie the Londoners won 6-3 on aggregate. They also emerged winners from their memorable meeting with Juventus in the 1980 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final.
