My own personal experience is that your best using your bank card, because you incurr a charge which usually not a percentage of what you take out. Therefore withdrawing large amounts of money may cost you approx 2 pound charge. Now thats with me using a Irish bank card abroad and using also a german bank card abroad from here. I wouldn't advise the same method with a credit card as this usually incurrs a percentage charge. I personnaly do not reccommend travel agents for money conversion, unless you can expense the charge to your company or sumtin :-). Their charges are absolutely ridiculous. I would go with the previous posters comments about not if possible changing money till new year if in eurozone. If you need to just change it as you need it. Also if you really wanted to save money on charges, then shop around in the banks for accounts where their cards have a very low charge for overseas transactions.
Travellers cheques, I don't know anything about them, but maybe someone could let you know how economical they are.
